Soluboard® Nominated for Beazley Designs of the Year
Soluboard® was today confirmed as a nominee for the Product category of Beazley Designs of the Year. Nominated by Jane Withers and selected for the award by curator, Emily King, Jiva will partake in the annual international design awards and exhibition. Hosted by the Design Museum in London, the event presents over 70 projects in a celebration of design from the previous year.
With more than 250 initial nominations submitted by internationally esteemed professionals in the world of design, the projects selected for the exhibition are split into six categories: Architecture, Fashion, Graphics, Digital, Product and Transport. Now in its thirteenth year, previous projects have included Apple’s first iPhone and the Leeza SOHO tower in Beijing, Zaha Hadid’s final building.
The exhibition will be presented in chronological order, spanning from January 2019 until January 2020 when COVID-19 caused worldwide disruption. While the pandemic is far from over and the journey from lockdown back to normality remains uncertain, it is clear that the issues that preoccupy us such as increasing e-waste levels have not gone away.
Emily King, the curator of Beazley Designs of the Year 2020, had the following to say:
‘Beazley Designs of the Year, will offer a vital chance to recap where we were when the virus took hold. It will require careful construction and precise story telling in order to establish the big themes and preoccupations from that period … More than merely an assessment of the past, it will be a frame for exploring the future.’
In early November, a judging panel will assess the shortlisted projects to select winners for each of the categories as well as overall ‘Design of the Year’. The panel will be chaired by Razia Iqbal, Broadcast Journalist and former Arts correspondent for the BBC. Iqbal will be joined by Edwin Heathcote, Architecture and Design Critic at Financial Times, as well as Matt Jones, Dr Philipp Rode, Samuel Ross, Seetal Solanki and Camille Walala.
The projects will be presented at the Design Museum’s home in Kensington from 21st October to 28th March next year, as well as in an accompanying exhibition catalogue. If you wish to support Jiva, you can vote for Soluboard® to win the ‘People’s Choice Award’ at the link below:
